My mind was opened to the beautiful language of the Philippines today - Tagalog! There are two official languages - 1) Filipino (based on Tagalog) and 2) English (which 90% of Filipinos are able to speak)! There is also some common knowledge of Spanish, due to the Spanish Occupation in the past. There are actually 70 different dialects spread out across the various islands of The Philippines, with 76-78 major language groups.
Introducing you to some phrases that I've learnt!
Good Morning -- Magandang umaga
Good Afternoon -- Magandang hapon
Good Evening -- Magandang gabi
Thank you -- Salamat
Yes -- Oo
No -- Hindi
I don't know -- Hindi ko alam
Note: Simply add a "po" at the end of each phrase for a more formal/polite version!
